8# Things New Apple iPhone 8 (Plus) can do.

1# Eliminate the urge to text and drive
Eliminate the urge to text and drive

The iPhone 8 senses when its user is driving (when it connects to the car via bluetooth, or feels the acceleration of a vehicle, for example) and will turn on the "do not disturb" feature. This way you won't be distracted by calls, texts, or other notifications while you're behind the wheel (even if you're at a red light.) If someone messages you, your phone will automatically alert them that you're driving. Even more reassuring is the peace of mind you'll have if your teen's the one behind the wheel.

2# Take better photos

The iPhone 8's camera is faster and has better color capture than any iPhone before it. You can even shoot video in 4K (picture HD, but even clearer), and take professional grade portraits with the new portrait lighting. Although the physical lenses have not been updated, the iPhone cameras have new 12-megapixel sensors. Apple’s new dedicated image processor will allow for sharper pictures and better image quality for normal pictures. The software also allows you to simulate different studio lighting conditions, allowing for artistic portraits and filter-like effects, although you’re unlikely to use these regularly.

3# Navigate inside malls and airport

Navigate inside malls and airport iPhone 8

We've all gotten lost looking for our gate at the airport or the Starbucks kiosk in the mall. But that will never happen again: Maps has added indoor guidance of major airports and shopping centers around the world. Now you can find out which floor the food court's on, without looking for a directory.

4# A massive 256GB of storage

A massive 256GB of storage iPhone 8

When last year’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were launched, the base model shipped with 32GB of storage. Apple has doubled that with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus both available with 64 GB. If you need more room you should buy the 256 GB. Remember that the iPhone does not use microSD cards to be added for more storage, unlike Android-powered devices, so what you buy in store is what you have for ever.

5# It still has TouchID

It still has TouchID iPhone 8

For all the bells and whistles in Apple’s impressive but hideously expensive iPhone X, there’s no way to be subtle about unlocking the phone. While the iPhone X relies on facial recognition, you still have TouchID on the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. That means no holding up a phone to your face to have it recognise you, just discreetly hold your thumb over the sensor and glance down under the table.

6# Wireless charging

The glass back also allows Apple to finally adopt wireless charging in the iPhone. Simply place the iPhone on a charging pad and power will flow to the batteries with no cables required. Apple has ensured the handsets are compatible with the Qi standard championed by the Wireless Power Consortium. That should help promote wireless charging of every Qi device (including the Galaxy S8 and Note 8), not just the new iPhones. Apple is also promising an improved wireless experience called AirPower. This will use its own technology that will work alongside Qi, but it won’t be available until 2018.

7# Louder speakers

Louder speakers iPhone 8

Apple says that the stereo speakers in the iPhone 8 are up to 25% louder and deliver deeper bass. After doing a side-by-side comparison, I agree with its claims. Sound quality remains nothing to write home about, but you will notice overall louder volume, and subtle, yet noticeable gains on the low-end.

8# It feels small

It feels small Iphone 8 Vs Pixel 2

This is both a good and bad thing. It easily fits into a pocket or purse, and while it's a bit heavier than older models, the heft feels good. The size also makes it easier to handle when using it with one hand.

The downside is that the 4.7-inch screen looks small compared to a lot of other phones. If watching videos or playing games is important to you, then maybe look at the iPhone 8 Plus which as a 5.5-inch screen, or wait for the iPhone X which is physically about the same size but has a 5.8-inch screen
